La sculpture du Phénix
En 1944, l'université fut incendiée au cours des bombardements qui précédèrent la libération de la ville.
La sculpture du Phénix, érigée sur l'esplanade de l'université, a été réalisée en 1954 par Louis Leygue.
Traitée de manière moderniste et représentant l'oiseau fabuleux de la mythologie grecque au dessus des flammes, cette sculpture en bronze de 8 mètres de haut est devenue le symbole d'une université qui renaissait de ses cendres.

In 1944, the university was burned during the bombardments which preceded the liberation of the city.
The sculpture of the Phoenix, set up on the esplanade of the university, was realized in 1954 by Louis Leygue.
Treated in a modernist way and representing the fabulous bird of the Greek mythology above flames, this bronze sculpture 8 meters high became the symbol of a university which was reborn of its ashes.
