Hippodrome de la Prairie




L’hippodrome de Caen jouit d’une situation exceptionnelle en plein coeur de la ville, le long de l’Orne, superbe fleuve côtier normand. Il propose un programme de trot de mars à novembre. Sa piste en sable de 1 957 mètres corde à droite, réputée très rapide, et sa longue ligne droite de 450 mètres en font le paradis des qualifications : sur la vingtaine de sites habilités en France, un tiers des épreuves qualificatives ont lieu à Caen.


Sur le plan des compétitions, on dit de l’hippodrome de la Prairie qu’il est l’antichambre de Paris-Vincennes, tant les chevaux peuvent s’y exprimer et rivaliser librement. D’ailleurs, le nom de Caen, Catumagos, serait d’origine gauloise et pourrait signifier "le champ du combat".


Avec un parking de 300 places, l’hippodrome de Caen peut accueillir jusqu’à 10 000 spectateurs. Son restaurant panoramique de 250 couverts, ses visites guidées, ses élégantes tribunes à l’architecture normande attirent, outre les passionnés du trot, les nombreux touristes venus découvrir la cité de Guillaume le Conquérant.

The racecourse of Caen enjoys an exceptional situation right in the heart of the city, along the Orne, the magnificent Norman coastal river. He proposes a program of trot from March till November. Its track in sand of 1 957 meters cords to the right, considered very fast, and its long 450 meter straight line make the paradise of the qualifications: on about twenty sites authorized in France, a third of the qualifying events take place in Caen.

From the point of view of the competitions, we say of the racecourse of the meadow that it is the anteroom of Paris-Vincennes, so much horses can express themselves there and compete freely. Moreover, the name of Caen, Catumagos, would be of Gallic origin and could mean " the field of the fight ".

With a parking lot of 300 places, the racecourse of Caen can welcome up to 10 000 spectators. Its panoramic restaurant of 250 places, its guided tours, its elegant stands in the Norman architecture attract, besides the enthusiasts of the trot, the numerous tourists come discover the city of William the Conqueror.
