Senhor do Padrão Traditional Geocache

Datado do século XVIII e conhecido também por “Senhor do Espinheiro” ou “Senhor da Areia”, assinala o local onde, segundo a lenda, apareceu a imagem do Bom Jesus de Bouças, mais tarde conhecida por Senhor de Matosinhos. Até inícios do século XX este monumento teve um fortíssimo impacto visual devido à sua localização (encontrava-se isolado no meio do areal da, à data, "Praia do Espinheiro").

Era visível a muitos quilómetros de distância quer em terra, quer em mar.

Na sequência do desenvolvimento dos últimos 100 anos perdeu-se muito do seu impacto visual, no entanto continua a ser uma importante referência para a cidade e para os pescadores. Com efeito, muita da devoção religiosa dos pescadores de Matosinhos e das suas famílias materializa-se junto a este monumento, sendo disso exemplo o dia 1 de Novembro quando o monumento se vê rodeado por milhares de velas que ardem em memória dos pescadores que morreram no mar.

O Senhor do Padrão foi classificado como Monumento Nacional, tendo sido publicado em Decreto-Lei nº 129/77 de 29 de Setembro.

Dating back to the eighteenth century and also know as "Senhor do Espinheiro" [Lord of the Thorn] ou "Senhor da Areia" [Lord of the Sand], maks the place where, according to the tale, appeared the christian wood statue, named "Bom Jesus de Bouças" [Good Jesus of Bouças], later known as "Senhor de Matosinhos" [Lord of Matosinhos]. This monument had a very strong visual impact until the beggining of the twentieth century due to its location (it was isolated on the middle of the sand of the city beach called at that time "Praia do Espinheiro" [Beach of the Thorn].

The dome could be seen from many miles from the sea or the city.

Following the city development of the last 100 years this dome losed much of its visual impact, however it continues to be an important reference to the city and the fishermen community. Indeed, much of the religious devotion of the community materializes next to this monument, being the 1st of November the day when the dome is surrounded by thousands of candles that burn in memory of the dead fishermens that the sea has taken.

This monument was classified as a National Monument and published in the Law nº 129/77 of September 29th.
