There has been a church in Philleigh since the 7th century. The current church has a tower from the 13th century. With the rest of the church being different additions from various victorian restorations. The old village name was 'Eglos Ros' meaning 'Heath Church' before both were changed to Philleigh after the parish saint St. Filius. The Manor of Eglos Rose is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The church has a west tower, north transcript and south ailse. The font is octagonal and dates from the 13th century.
