Geocache Description:

North Carolina Taphophile Delight (Cache #10)

Grady Family Cemetery

Taphophile is the name given to someone who takes an interest in cemeteries, tombstones, or memory of past lives. A cemetery doesn't have to be famous or ancient to excite your interest.

"The fence around a cemetery is foolish, for those inside can't get out and those outside don't want to get in." Arthur Brisbane

A few reminders for cemetery etiquette:

1). Only cache between sunrise and sunset. (It is considered trespassing in many cemeteries after dark.)

2). Be respectful of any ongoing services and don't forget to use your stealth (or come back later).

3). This is a great place to utilize CITO (Cache In/Trash Out). However, if there are flowers, coins, photos etc. be careful if you move them and put them back leaving everything as you found it. These are memorials, places where people come to remember a lost family member, keep them as such.

4). If you bring children, keep them nearby and don't let them play on any of the monuments. This is not only disrespectful, but may cause damage to the stone. Teach them to have respect in any cemetery. No running, yelling, rolling around on the ground, a cemetery is not a playground and should not be treated as such.

"Consider, friend, as you pass by: As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, you too shall be. Prepare, therefore, to follow me. (unnamed Scottish tombstone)
