Le Quintaou
Le Quintaou ou villa rose est une demeure historique d'Anglet. Elle porte un nom d'origine portugaise qui apparaît dans les archives pour la première fois en 1620. La demeure actuelle a été construite en 1787 à la demande de Jean Bernain, relieur et lithographe à Bayonne. La villa, qui conserve encore aujourd'hui ses balcons en fer forgé du XVIIIe siècle, était entourée d'un vaste parc occupé aujourd'hui par la médiathèque et la place du marché.
Le petit-fils de Jean Bernain, Eugène, hérite de la maison. Il devient maire d’Anglet en 1870, au moment où la ville se développe. À la mort d’Eugène, la demeure revient à son neveu Albert Le Barillier, qui devient lui-même maire d’Anglet. Ainsi Le Quintaou est étroitement lié à l’histoire locale de la ville.
La villa rose abrite aujourd’hui une crèche.
Le Domaine
Jadis grand domaine privé, le coeur du Quintaou est maintenant en passe de devenir le centre-ville d'Anglet, dans le prolongement du quartier Saint-Jean. Ce grand espace modernisé regroupe divers centres d'intérêts, bien vivants à Anglet : le marché, la Salle, la Tour, la Médiathèque et la Villa Quintaou, le seul édifice restant du domaine original légué à la ville d’Anglet à condition d'en faire une œuvre de bienfaisance pour les femmes en couches et les nourrissons qui est effectivement devenu la Maison de l'Enfance et des Familles.

The Quintaou
The Quintaou or the Pink Mansion is a historic feature of Anglet. Its name comes from Portuguese and first appears in the city archives in 1620. In its present form, it was built in 1787 at the request of Jean Bernain, bookbinder and lithographer in Bayonne. The villa, which has retained its wrought iron balconies of the eighteenth century, is still surrounded by a large park now occupied by the library and the market place.
The youngest son of Jean Bernain, Eugène, inherited the mansion. He became mayor of Anglet in 1870, as the city started to grow. Upon the death of Eugène, the house passed on to his nephew Albert Le Barillier, who also became mayor of Anglet. The Quintaou has been closely associated with the local history of the city.
The Pink Mansion has now become a nursery.
The Domain
Formerly a large private estate, the heart of Quintaou might become part of a new city center for Anglet, next to the Saint-Jean neighbourhood. This modernized space brings together various cultural features in a lively part of Anglet: the Market, the Theater, the Tower, the Library and the Villa Quintaou, the only remaining building from the original domain bequeathed to the town of Anglet as a home for a charity for women in childbirth and infants. The mansion is now the House of Children and Families.
