Le Quintaou
Le Quintaou ou villa rose est une demeure historique d’Anglet. Elle porte un nom d’origine portugaise qui apparaît dans les archives pour la première fois en 1620. La demeure actuelle a été construite en 1787 à la demande de Jean Bernain, relieur et lithographe à Bayonne. La villa, qui conserve encore aujourd’hui ses balcons en fer forgé du XVIIIe siècle, était entourée d’un vaste parc occupé aujourd’hui par la médiathèque et la place du marché.
L'esplanade du marché de Quintaou
L'esplanade derrière la villa rose abrite aujourd'hui le marché de Quintaou, le jeudi et le dimanche matin, qui a fêté ses 30 ans en novembre 2014. C'est un lieu très populaire pour les angloys et leurs voisins.
Le 4ème samedi de chaque mois, l'esplanade est envahie par les puces de Quintaou, de 8h à 18h, qui sont connues pour être le plus grand marché à la brocante et vide-grenier de la Côte Basque.
En dehors des animations commerciales, l'esplanade se transforme en parking.
Ne manquez pas de jeter un coup d'œil, au bout de la place, à la Salle Quintaou, théâtre d'Anglet, inaugurée début 2014, avec son architecture pittoresque, son parvis aéré et son restaurant donne une note originale au quartier.
The Quintaou
The Quintaou or the Pink Mansion is a historic feature of Anglet. Its name comes from Portuguese and first appears in the city archives in 1620. In its present form, it was built in 1787 at the request of Jean Bernain, bookbinder and lithographer in Bayonne. The villa, which has retained its wrought iron balconies of the eighteenth century, is still surrounded by a large park now occupied by the library and the market place.
The Market Place
The esplanade behind the Pink Mansion now serves as the market place of Quintaou, Thursdays and Sundays mornings, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in November 2014. It is a very popular place for the locals and their neighbors.
On the 4th Saturday of the month, the esplanade turns into the flea market of Quintaou, from 8am to 6pm, which is known as the biggest brocante, antiques and garage sale around.
On its off days, the esplanade is used as a car park and a recreational space.
Be sure to take a look the Salle Quintaou, the Anglet Theater, at the far end of the market place. It was inaugurated in early 2014, and looks quite interesting with its picturesque architecture, its courtyard and its restaurant giving an original touch to the neighborhood.
