Having immensely enjoyed completing the Leeds City Centre Treasure Hunt (GC4P0Z5), and as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I've decided to put a similar (but easier) multicache together in Sheffield!
I have taken ten photographs (with my very unprofessional compact digital camera) of features within a relatively small area of Sheffield City Centre. All the features are to be found within the area in this map:
All you need to do is walk around the area, spot the features in the photographs and answer the associated questions. Some of the locations will be easy to find, others a little more tricky, but overall it shouldn't present too much of a challenge. Once you have collected all the answers, then simply feed them into the formula at the bottom and you can head off to find the cache container. This has been hidden a short walk away from Location 10 in pretty much the only place left in the city centre where a geocache could still be placed (more than the required 161 metres away from another)!
So, good luck and happy finding!
Location 1:
A two-digit number is missing from the photograph - it is the day in March 1889 by which professional players needed to send in their "testimonials and particulars". What is that number? (Answer = A)
Location 2:
On the wall below this image of the Annunciation, there are two numbers in a letter H. Which number is in the lower half of the letter? (Answer = B)
Location 3:
This feature appears above the main entrance of a building. Above this feature there is a year. What is the fourth digit in this year? (Answer = C)
Location 4:
What is the second digit of the year this gentleman was born? (Answer = D)
Location 5:
What is the total number of ornamental metallic spheres (small and large) in this area? (Answer = E)
Location 6:
At which temperature in degrees Fahrenheit are these measurement standards exactly correct? (Answer = F)
Location 7:
What is the fourth digit of the year in which this plaque was placed (the year has been removed from the photograph)? (Answer = G)
Location 8:
What is the last digit of the year in which this bell was presented to the people of Sheffield? (Answer = H)
Location 9:
What is the last digit of the year in which the man who wrote this quote (Fred Walford) finished at Sheffield's old Junior Technical School (JTS)? (Answer = J)
Location 10:
What is the third digit of the year in which this striking sculpture by David Wynne was presented to the people of Sheffield? (Answer = K)
After you have found all of the locations and made a note of which numbers are represented by each letter A through to K, substitute the letters in the formula below to find the geocache!
N53 22. D [B – J] B
W001 28. W001 28. C [G – K] [F – A – B – C – E – H – J]
You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
Please be careful when extracting the cache as it's in a busy area and stealth will be required. Also please make sure you replace it exactly as found. Good luck and happy geocache hunting!
