The Kourtaliotiko Gorge is located 22 km south of Rethymno and has a length of 3km. The huge cliffs of the canyon reach a height of 600 meters. The canyon is crossed by the Megalopotamos river. You will find the cache near a very green spot where the water is flowing like rain through the plants that cover he hillside. In the sunshine the river sparkles in countless shades of green. In summer you can take a bath.
To reach the cache area you have to follow the gravel road that starts at T1. You can do that by foot or with a 4x4 car. It is not recommended to go down by a normal car. I did it once, and this was not the best idea I ever had ... The way is quite steep in some parts, so don’t forget to take some water with you during the summer if you hike down to the cache.
The cache is a small plastic container with a logbook, a pen and some goodies to trade.
