Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES...

This cache has been placed especially for our Australia Day Event, A Patriotic Gathering (GC5GE8Z).

The arrival of the First Fleet in Botany Bay is what many Australian's think the day is celebrated for, but as Botany Bay was deemed unsuitable Captain Arthur Philip travelled to Port Jackson where it was decided that it would be a better location.

Captain Philip then gave orders for the remaining fleet to leave Botany Bay & it was on the last day that the final ship arrived into Port Jackson & Philip took possession of the land. The flag of Great Britain was then raised & happened on the day that we now celebrate Australia Day.

Across the nation it is the largest celebrated event & is an official public holiday for all states & territories. Many festivals, concerts & citizenship ceremonies take place. The Honorary list of Australians is read & the "Australian of the Year" is also announced at this time.

The cache can be found at S32º 18.??? E115º 50.???
