When I first visited this country I couldn't get enough of the silly, adorably fun and beautiful little Willy Wagtail. My poor friends, if I so much as heard one I'd drag them all over to try and find it. It's been a few years since I've moved here, so unfortuantely I'm not as interested as I used to be, but I still find myself smiling when I hear that scolding "chika-chika-chika". Not much to say about this bird that you guys would already know, they swing their tails and bounce around to disorientate their prey. There is no outside way to tell the difference between a male and female. Not sure if these guys get nasty aggressive during mating season, but I'd say the neighboring Grey Fantail is verrry aggressive, i had a fighting pair fall into my lap during a walk around the lake! Not only are they fun to watch, they also feast on nasty mosquitos and knats around lake fronts. Most of my wagtail spotting occurs along Lake Tuggeranong and the National Museum, but if you know of a better spot to see them, or you've had a great wagtail experience, please say so below.
