Geocache Description:

Three Lakes claims to be "The Single Best" town in America. Well, that's quite a claim, what makes it so? Is it the location, the cultural history of the place or the atmosphere and charm of this sleepy little northwoods town this claim is chained to? This new series will give you a little insight into this puzzling question and perhaps an answer of your own.

Every small town in America has its hometown hero or hometown celebrity and Three Lakes is no different. While Cy Williams might be the name that first comes to mind when this town thinks of its own (another cache to come), he is accompanied by another "Entertainer" by the name of Skip. You can find a lot about Skip on-line, but a few answers can nobly be gotten from the plaque at the reference point.

According to the plaque, Skip started playing instruments when he was just G years old. Including the instrument for which he gained notoriety, Skip taught himself to play H other instruments as he broadened his musical skills. Truth be told, Skip is said to have ably played at least 18 different instruments. His multi-faceted music and comedic talent came in useful when he was drafted in 19A7 and eventually assigned to the 3J2 US Army Post Band at Fort Lee where he "played everything".

Over the years Skip held numerous positions as band director, staff musician for a number of TV stations, stage magician and comedian, sign painter and, of course, band musician in numerous bands including one called "The Keith Phillips Six" which performed in famous Nevada casinos. Skip's signature trick became so well known that he received an entertainment award from our EFth president.

Skip later started playing locally in a band by his namesake performing in a number of Three Lakes establishments where he became a mainstay attraction until his retirement. However, after a 12 year break, Skip fired up his stage show once again in 2CDI. This iconic statue of Skip performing one of his signature showstoppers was dedicated in 20BG.
