Originally this cache was placed here July 17th 2007. During it's time 841 people found it, 42 photos were placed & 11 people called it their most favorite geocache ever! The geocache was lost for a period of time and was re-launched 8/27/2014 for all to continue to enjoy.

First, some history... President Thomas Jefferson had long wanted to see what the lands of western North America were like. With the approval of Congress, he made plans even before the Louisiana Purchase was completed. He asked Meriwether Lewis, his secretary, to head the expedition and to selected his own co-captain. Lewis chose William Clark, who once had been his commanding officer in the army. Sacajawea is well-known as the Indian woman who led Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition to find the Pacific Ocean. The truth is a bit different from the movie and children's book versions, however. In fact, Sacajawea was not officially a member of the expedition party. Her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau, was hired as an interpreter and took Sacajawea along. She was allowed to join the party as an unofficial member because the captains thought she would be useful to help in communicating with some of the Indian tribes they met and also in obtaining horses from her native tribe, the Shoshone. Seek and find the statue of Lewis and Clark and Sacajawea pointing, or giving approximate directions to the cache. Their point as such proves that they did not have a GPS system and therefore never could have enjoyed the fun of geocaching! In this geocaching treasure chest you will find a trinket left by each member of our big family who meet in Cannon Beach each year. We all come from two countries and three different states for family fun, great pizza, awesome candy, maple bars and jolting bumper cars.
