Geocache Description:

KILMORE STANDING STONES

In touch with ancient Mull

The Kilmore, or Cnoc Fada, Standing Stones are found in what used to be a clearing in trees at the southern end of Cnoc Fada, just 230 metres north-west of the road from Dervaig to Tobermory. There is a small car park at the top of the hill, from which a path leads to a gate giving into the plantation.

The whole area has now been clear-felled, resulting in the loss of the original cache placed here. The cache was replaced, since this is too impressive a place not to visit. But then the replacement was washed away, and now the cache has been relocated once more. Hopefully, the state of dereliction that prevails at the moment, while improve as Nature takes its course.

There are 5 standing stones in all, but only 2 remain standing. The upright stones are both approximately 2.5 metres in height. Even without the cover of trees, that filtered green light onto the stones, this remains a truly magical place.
