Geocache Description:

We are group of young Dorset volunteers who have set a trail so you can go back in time and walk in the Shoes of a Dorset First World War Soldier. Remember stay in the public space it is not hidden on private property and be careful of the road. From this cache you can see a spot where we hid a history box with history cards we made and a QR code to scan for extra info. To find the linked history box - go to where you can fix a tyre and look for a post box that is not a post box.

From this cache you can see a spot of historical significance where we have hidden a history box to tell the story of a Dorset First World War Soldier as he rested and relaxed in the Dorset Soldier's home ran by the Churches Temperance Movement. You could get a cup of tea and a Nelson cake and a kind ear, write a letter, bath, even stable your horse! We tell the poignant story of a waiter who worked here who went off to war. There is a part 2 to this cache hidden in the box is an extra story in fact there are all the stories connected to the names on St Peter's War memorial around the corner, You can take our scroll and look up each name and the soldier's story will come alive. We had the kind help of Brian Bates for the facts in this part of the cache. We did all the other research and design work and made our own app. We would love to know what you think about the story we tell you while you stand in this spot where history was made 100 years ago. Cache placed with the kind permission of the manager of the Garage. (Remember stay in the public space it is not hidden on anyone's private property and be careful of the road)
