Geocache Description:

Calvin McCoy (1862 - 1888)

The body of Calvin McCoy was found near the ashes of his home this New Year’s Day. Calvin lived with his parents near Blackberry Creek.

The McCoys have been embroiled in a long running Feud with the Hatfield family that has become infamous in these parts.

Calvin was shot during a raid by several Hatfield men during which they set fire to the McCoy cabin. Young Mr. McCoy was the son of Feud leader Randolph McCoy. Also killed during the raid was his sister Alifair.

Calvin was preceded in death by his brothers Tolbert, Pharmer and Bud who were also killed as a result of the dispute between the Hatfield and McCoy families. Surviving him are her parents Randolph McCoy and Sarah McCoy and siblings Roseanna, James, Samuel, William, Trinvilla, Adlade, Fannie and Floyd.

He will be buried beside his three brothers at a small family plot near the now destroyed home.
