In February 2014 the UK was hit by some of the biggest storms and amount of water we have ever seen. The Somerset Levels remained under water for months afterwards leaving people homeless. The Westcountry was cut off from the rest of the country when part of the sea wall collapsed and the raill link fell into the sea at Dawlish.
More locally the waves constantly breached the sea wall just down the road, leaving Morton Road, Parts of Victoria Road and Imperial Road under water. The force of the waves took some of the coping stones off the top of the sea wall and destroyed one of the walls of the shelter.
I never expected to have to use sandbags to protect my property in Victoria Road. Morton Road was turned into a river, and during one of the worst evenings I walked to the seafront along Morton Road. The wind was so strong I couldnt make it all the way. See some of the photos in the gallery which capture the events of those few days.
