La croix et la plaque du chanoine Cathala.

En 1957, Joseph Cathala était chanoine à la paroisse de Signes, au sud-est du massif de la Sainte-Baume. Il se rendait souvent à la grotte de Marie-Madeleine, sur le versant nord, pour prier et rencontrer les prêtres dominicains. Le 4 septembre, il quitta la grotte pour repartir vers Signes. Ne le voyant pas revenir au village, ses proches envoyèrent quelqu'un à la grotte, voir s'il s'y trouvait toujours. Mais les frères lui apprirent qu'il était parti depuis deux jours ! Les recherches commencèrent dans le massif. Mais c'est seulement au matin du second jour qu'ils trouvèrent le chanoine dans une faille, tête en bas depuis trois jours et quatre nuits. Le pauvre homme était encore vivant. Il survécut encore une heure, le temps de recevoir les derniers sacrements.
Par la suite, une croix puis une plaque furent érigées près du lieu où il avait été retrouvé. De là, vous aurez une très belle vue sur le versant sud du massif, jusqu'à la mer méditerranée.

In 1957, Joseph Cathala was canon in the parish of Signes, a village southeast of the Sainte-Baume massif. He often went to the cave of Mary Magdalene to pray and meet with Dominican priests, on the north side of the massif. On September 4, he left the cave to go to Signes. But he never arrived to the village, so someone go to the cave to see if it was still there. But the brothers taught him that he was gone for two days! The research began in the mountains. But it is only in the morning of the second day they found him in a fault, upside down, for three days and four nights. The poor man was still alive. It even survived an hour, time for him to receive the last sacraments.
Later, a cross and a plaque was erected near the place where he was found. From here you have a beautiful view of the south side of the massif, to the Mediterranean Sea.
