Thirty six million years ago, massive volcanoes rose above the flat plains of far west Texas. Lava flows and ash covered from near the New Mexico line to the north to the Big Bend of the Rio Grande to the south. Eroded remains of the volcanoes now form the "Texas Alps". Mountains rise to 8200' in the vicinity of the cache. Hidden valleys and majestic ridges are covered with Pinon pine, cedar and occasionally, towering thunderheads.
Several small towns are tucked away in this remote part of Texas. Some of these settlements are in locations occupied by humans for thousands of years. The Sleeping Lion Cache is located near one of these towns and celebates a bit of the history of the old west. Early Indians left pictographs in the nearby canyons. Buffalo Soldiers patrolled these remote mountains and now you can go several miles west of the cache and see billions of light years.
Claim Question:In order to claim this cache, you must go to the coordinates given and find the nearest sign. It will quote a lady concering the nearby building. You must answer the question: Who was the lady and what was her profession?

This cache can be accessed only between 9 AM and 5 PM and will cost you $10.00 (updated 4-30-21) to gain entrance. It is on a National Historic Site managed by the National Park Service.
