The construction of the Governor's Palace began in 1892 at the time of the Guvernor Lajos Batthyany and based on the design of one of the leading Hungarian architects of the time, Alajos Hauszmann, who had already proved himself on the project of the King's Palace and the Parliament building in Budapest. On a surface area of 12,000 m2, the simple and monumental corpus of the detached neo-Renaissance palace was built based on models of the famous Palladi's works, a French park with two fountains and balustrades made of wrought iron and two-leaf door with sentry boxes. Today it houses the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral founded in 1961, which contains a maritime, cultural and historical, ethnographic and archaeological department. Some of the original pieces from the Governor's palace have been preserved and presented in the salons, including furniture and art objects belonging to the periods from Renaissance to Historicism, as well as a collection of portraits of the most prominent citizens of Rijeka. The museum permanent exhibition represent the history of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County trough archaeological findings, maritime history trough the exhibition the Sails of Kvarner where it is also presented one of the five preserved lifejacket from the TITANIC.

Wahrend der amtszeit des Gouverneurs Lajos Batthyany wurde im Jahre 1892 mit dem Bau des Gouvernurs palastes begonnen.Die Bauplane stammten von einem der bedeutendsten ungarischen Architeckten, Alois Hauszmann, welcher sich schon mit den Bauprojekten des Konigspalastes und Parlamentsgebaudes in Budapest einen Namen gemacht hatte. Innmitten einer Flache von 12000 m2 erhebt sich ein einfacher aber machtiger Palast im Stil der Neurenaissance, nach dem Vorbild des beruhmten Palladi.Den Palast umschliesen ein franzosischer Garten, zwei Brunnen und ein Eisengelander mit zweiflugeliger Eingangstur sowie Wachposten.Das Seefahrts museum und historische Museum des kroatischen Kustenlandes wurde 1961 gegrundet und befindet sich heute im Palast.Im Museum sind die Seefahrtsabteilung, ethnogrrafische, archaologische sowie kulturgeschichtliche Abteilung untergebracht.Die ursprungliche Ausstattung des Gouverneurs palastes wird in den Salons ausgestellt.Diese ausstellung beinhaltet Mobelstucke und Kunsthandwerks gegenstande mit einer reichen stilistischen Spannbreite, welche von der Renaissance bis zum Historizismus reicht.Ebenfalls kann die Sammlung der Portraits der berumtesten Burger Rijekas bestaumt werden. Das Museum prasentiert die Geschichte der altesten Primorje - Gorski Kotar durcharchaologische Befunde wurden durch die Ausstellung Sails Kvarner, wo er ausgesetzt istund einer der fun uberlebenden Rettungswestevon der TITANIC, und maritime Geschichte.

La contruzione del Pallazzo del Governatore fu Awiata nel 1892, all'epoca del governatore Lajos Batthyany, secondo il progetto di Alajos Hauszmann, uno dei mggiori architetti ungheresi dell'epoca che avva gia dato prova del proprio telento con i progetti del Palazzo Reale e del Parlamento di Budapest. Su una superficie di 12.000 m2 fucostriuto un palazzo neorinascimentale indiependente, al contempo semplice e monumentale, ispirto alle celebricostruzioni palladiane. Nelle sue vicinanze sorgono un parco alla francese con due fontane, una balaustra di ferro battuto e una porta d'entrata a due ante, prowista di guardiole. Nel palazzo ha sede oggi il Museo Marittimo e Sorico del Litorale Croato, fondato nel 1961 e suddiviso nelle sezioni marittima, storico-culturale, etnografica e archeologica. Degli elementi originali del Palazzo del Governatore sono rimasti intatti solo alcuni oggetti nei saloni, tra cui mobili e opere di artigianato artistico, appartenenti stilisticamente al periodo tra il Rinascimento e lo Storicismo, e una ollezione di ritatti dei cittadini piu illustri di Rijeka. Il museo presenta la storia della piu anticalitoraneo - montana attraverso repertiarcheologici sono stati fatti, e la storia marittimaattraverso la mostra Vele Quarnero, dove e esposta e uno dei cinque sopravissutigiubbotto di salvataggio del TITANIC.

Gradnja Guvernerove palače započela je 1892. u vrijeme guvernera Lajosa Btthyanya, a prema projektu jednog od vodećih mađarskih arhitekata Alojsa Hauszmana, već potvrđenog na projekzu Kraljevske palače i zgrade Parlamenta u Budimpešti. Sred površine od 12.000 m2 uzdiže se jednostavan i monumentalan korpus slobodnostojeće neorenesansne palače po uzoru na slavna Palladijeva djela, francuski park s dvije fontane i ogradom od kovanog željeza te dvokrilnim ulaznim vratima sa stražarnicama. U palači je danas smješten Pomorski i povijesni muzej Hrvatskog primorja, osnovan 1961. godine koji sadrži pomorski, kulturno - povijesni, etografski i arheološki odjel. Od izvorne opreme Guvernerove palače sačuvan je i prezentiran dio građe u salonima, uključujući namještaj i predmete umjetničkog obrta, koji stilski pokrivaju razdoblje od renesanse do historicizma, te zbirku portreta najuglednijih građana Rijeke. U Muzeju je predstavljena i najstarija povijest Primorsko - goranske županije kroz arheološke nalaske, te povijest pomorstva kroz izložbu Jedra Kvarnera gdje je izložen i jedan od pet sačuvanih prsluka za spašavanje s TITANIKA.
