Geocache Description:

On a small island in the Kelso River in the BWCA

This is a virtual cache in the wilderness area of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Leave No Trace ethics are used here therefore there is nothing here but a mysterious rock formation and a map reference. But what an amazing rock formation it is!

It's a rock 6 foot long and 3 foot in diameter. No big deal? Well, how about this: it's placed perfectly in the center of an island up off the ground with supporting rocks! Ya copy that? On an island? In a wilderness area? No motors allowed! There are no roads, no heavy equipment, no machinery to lift it into place!

How was it put there? You tell me! Take a look and make a guess! Some of the more "creative" suggestions have been Vikings placed it there as an ancient rock cairn. Another is that it's a alien navagational beacon! I like that one! Others say that it is in harmony with the earth and that if you strike it correctly it will resonate with other dolman rocks throughout northern Minnesota and Wisconsin as an ancient signaling device!

I'm sure some geologist is going to come up with some dull, perfectly reasonable explaination for this formation soon so hurry to dream up your own first! To verify your find, e-mail me with the number of rocks supporting the mystical Dolman rock and why is that number significant!
