Geocache Description:

This cache should only take about a half-hour to complete so if you’re staying on the island or just stopping by on a cruise ship you should be able to get this one done. All of the locations are in the part of town you’re likely to be visiting.

I just returned from a trip to Cozumel, Mexico where I really wanted to log a geocache. Unfortunately, the two caches listed for the island seemed to have gone missing. To make sure that would be a Cozumel cache that won’t be pillaged; I decided to set up this virtual multi-cache.

There are three stops on this cache. At each of the first two stops you’ll need to find a numerical clue that you’ll use to find the next stop on the cache. When you reach the last stop, you’ll need to answer a simple observational question, send me the answer and, after verification, I’ll give you permission to log the cache.

1. LAND: Head to the first coordinates. You’ll be standing in front of a statue of a famous Mexican politician. On the statue’s plaque are the dates he served in office in the form “18AB–18CD” where A, B, C and D each represent a numerical digit. You’ll need these values in the next step.

2. SEA: To get to the second coordinate, substitute the digits (A, B, C or D) into the coordinates below and head there.

N 20º 30.CD1’
W 86º 56.94B’

After walking to these coordinates, you’ll end up at another work of art depicting one of Cozumel’s most famous participation sports. At the very bottom of the plaque that sits between the artwork and the street there’s a date of the form “199X” where ‘X’ is a numerical digit. Use this digit in the next step.

3. AIR: Use the digit ‘X’ obtained above and substitute it into the following coordinates, do the math, and head for the final stop.

N 20º 30.63(X-2)’
W 86º 57.04(X-3)’

When you reach this final point you’ll see a tall flagpole surrounded by a number of statues depicting birds. Count the bird statues and send me an email with the number you get. You don't need to wait for permission to log your find. NOTE: Don’t post the answer in your log even if you encrypt them and don't post any pictures that might give away the answer.
