The Mysterious Tunnel
The Municipality of Florence is planning to drill a tunnel under the hills of Florence to improve the communication between the western and the eastern districts of the city. But a tunnel already exists! Even many Florentines ignore that a project of 1934 already foresaw a communication East-West passing under the hills, but unfortunately a slope first (maybe due to a fault fracture in the ground) and the WWII war later, stopped forever the project. The tunnel begins at the given coordinates in Via Ubaldo Montelatici, district of Rifredi-Poggetto, after 100 mts a wall of bricks interrupts the tunnel that was used as a shelter during the war. And by the other side? The entrance still exists, it is in a private area but it can be well recognized (even by Street View!). This is your goal: the cache is placed in a street in front of the other entrance. How to find the other entrance? It is not easy, even in Internet there are not many clues, some of them with mistakes (some give the exit in the Careggi/Rifredi district - false), but for a skilled geocacher as you are this is a bagatelle!
La Municipalità di Firenze sta progettando di perforare un tunnel sotto le colline di Firenze per migliorare le comunicazioni Est-Ovest della città. Ma un tunnel esiste già! Perfino molti fiorentini ignorano che già un progetto del 1934 prevedeva una comunicazione Est-Ovest passando sotto le colline, ma sfortunatamente una frana prima (probabilmente per la frattura di faglia esistente lungo il percorso) e la seconda guerra mondiale poi fermarono per sempre il progetto. Il tunnel comincia alle coordinate indicate in Via Ubaldo Montelatici nel quartiere di Rifredi-Poggetto, dopo 100 metri un muro di mattoni interrompe il tunnel che fu usato durante la guerra come rifugio. E dall'altra parte? L'entrata esiste ancora, è in un'area privata, ma è ben riconoscibile (perfino con Street View!). Questo è il vostro compito: la cache è posta in una strada di fronte all'altra entrata. Come trovarla? Non è facile, perfino in internet non ci sono molti indizi, alcuni anche sbagliati (qualcuno indica l'uscita nel quartiere di Careggi/Rifredi - sbagliato), ma per dei geocacher astuti come voi è un gioco da ragazzi!
