Stairway Ridge is a 708-acre tract of land that was acquired by Keystone Conservation Trust, Westfall Township, and Matamoras Borough in 2009 using funds from the Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program (and other state/private funding). Not only is this property directly adjacent to existing state lands and the headwaters of Bush Kill Creek, this tract is also a big part of Pike County’s bluestone history. Bluestone from this, and other Pike County properties, was mined and sold to places like New York City and Philadelphia. This geocache resides with no evidence of its history near the prized Devonian deposition.
This property is now part of the Delaware State Forest and is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
