The church dates from the 12th century. Alterations and additions were made to it in the 14th century, and again in the 15th century when the west tower was built. It is constructed in sandstone rubble and has a tiled roof and a timber-framed porch
The interior has some interesting furnishings, including Elizabethan pews and Jacobean communion rails. There is a small 18th century pipe organ which may have been played at one time by composer Sir Edward Elgar and is used for occasional recitals.
Pendock church is not in regular use and has been cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust since 1 November 1987. A limited number of services are allowed; these mainly take place on special Sundays.
The churchyard is maintained and active.
The church is locked, but it is well worth a look inside. The key is readily available 300m east of the Church, across the field, at Prior’s Court. It is usually hanging up in the porch round the side of the house, so it is not necessary to disturb the residents – although their little dog might give you away! I have given waypoints for the gate into Prior’s Court, and also their porch.
There are some leaflets provided by the Churches Conservation Trust in the church which give a detailed history and description of Pendock Church.
This is a view of part of the Malvern Hills and some ponies in the field on the way to Prior's Court.
Thanks to the Churches Conservation Trust for allowing me to place a cache here.
You are looking for a small clip & lock box in a camo bag. in the church grounds. It originally contains a FTF key-ring along with a few other bits and bobs.
“If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list”
***** Congratulations to sharpei65 on their FTF *****
