Geocache Description:

This is a quick park-n-grab, at the site of the SS No. 8 school bell.

This medium-sized cache is located near the SS No. 8 school bell cairn. My father and all of his siblings attended the one-room school house that used to be across the road, commonly known as Greenock School when he was a student. Growing up nearby, I always loved the story of my Dad and his brothers sliding down the snowy hill on their metal lunch boxes on the way to school. SS No. 8 was one of the last one-room schools in the township and it wasn't until 1965 that the enrollment outgrew the small school and students were bused up to Ospringe.

On March 1, 1966 it was very windy and a fire consumed the building. The bell had been removed from the school when it was sold in 1965, and after the fire enough bricks and the round name stone were salvaged and the bell added to build the cairn.

The cache is a lock-and-lock, chock full of all the school supplies a kid could need!
