Perché Francesco Petrarca scelse questo borgo per trascorrere serenamente i suoi ultimi anni? Perché ad Arquà si gode un panorama che non ha eguali, che si perde nel verde rigenerante dei colli Euganei.
Le viuzze che salgono i dolci declivi dei colli dischiudono un’atmosfera magica, fatta di palazzi medievali e ville che celebrano il passato veneziano.
Qui tutto ricorda il passaggio di Francesco Petrarca. La sua casa conserva la fisionomia trecentesca (la loggetta a due archi è stata aggiunta nel 1546) e una raccolta di opere ed oggetti del poeta laureato, mentre la piazza accoglie la sua tomba: un’arca di marmo rosso di Verona.
La chiesa di S. Maria, di poco posteriore all'anno Mille, è stata ampliata e impreziosita da opere pittoriche, di particolare interesse è la tela di Palma il Giovane.
Il Touring Club ha insignito questo spettacolare borgo medievale del titolo di “Bandiera Arancione” per il valore delle risorse storico-culturali, ampiamente fruibili e ben conservate.
Ma Arquà Petrarca è famosa in tutto il mondo per un frutto e un modo di dire particolare. Quali? L’espressione “andare in brodo di giuggiole” cosa vi ricorda? La giuggiola, un dolce frutto autunnale che arriva da lontano e che ha trovato un ottimo habitat nei pendii soleggiati dei Colli Euganei. È celebrato nel mese di ottobre durante la Festa della Giuggiola.

Why did Francesco Petrarch choose this village to spend his last years peacefully? Because in Arquà you can enjoy a view that has no equal, which fades into the regenerating green of the Euganean Hills.
The narrow lanes that climb the gentle slopes of the hills reveal a magical atmosphere, made of medieval palaces and villas celebrating the Venetian past.
Here everything honours the memory of Francesco Petrarch. His house retains its 14thcentury character (the small loggia with two arches was added in 1546) and contains a collection of works and objects that belonged to the poet laureate, while the square houses his tomb: a sarcophagus of red Verona marble. The church of S. Maria, built just after the year 1000, was expanded and embellished with paintings. Of particular interest is the painting by Palma il Giovane (Young Palma).
The Touring Club has awarded this spectacular medieval town the title of "Orange Flag" for the value of its historical and cultural resources that are widely available and well preserved.
But Arquà Petrarca is famous throughout the world for a curious fruit, the jujube, a sweet autumn fruit that comes from far away lands and has found an excellent habitat in the sunny slopes of the Euganean Hills. It is celebrated in the month of October during the Feast of the Jujube.
On the grave of the poet are engraved some Roman numbers. The number of M correspond to "A". The number of C correspond to "B". The number of L correspond to "C". Replace the letters in this formula to get the final coordinates:

Warum wählte Francesco Petrarca diesen Ort, um hier seine letzten Jahre in Frieden zu verbringen? Weil man in Arquà ein unvergleichliches Panorama genießt, das sich im erholsamen Grün der Euganeischen Hügel verliert.
Die Gassen, die auf die sanften Hügel hinaufführen, enthüllen eine magische Atmosphäre mit mittelalterlichen Gebäuden und Herrenhäusern, die von der glorreichen venezianischen Vergangenheit erzählen.
Alles hier erinnert an den Aufenthalt von Francesco Petrarca. Sein Haus ist noch so erhalten wie im 14. Jahrhundert (die zweibogige Loggia wurde 1546 angebaut) und birgt eine Sammlung von Werken und Objekten des Poeta laureatus, während auf der Piazza sein Grab – ein Bogen aus rotem Verona-Marmor – zu sehen ist. Die Kirche S. Maria aus der Zeit kurz nach dem Jahr Tausend wurde ausgebaut und mit Gemälden bereichert, wobei besonders das Werk von Palma il Giovane Interesse verdient.
Der Touring Club hat diesem grandiosen mittelalterlichen Ort den Titel “Bandiera Arancione” verliehen, um den Wert der gut erhaltenen und gut zugänglichen historisch-kulturellen Ressourcen auszuzeichnen.
Aber Arquà Petrarca ist in aller Welt auch für eine Frucht und eine Redensart berühmt. Welche? Hier sagt man “andare in brodo di giuggiole”, wenn man sich für etwas begeistert. Die Giuggiola, d.h. Jujuba oder Brustbeere, ist eine süße Herbstfrucht, die von weither kommt und auf den sonnigen Hängen der Euganeischen Hügel einen günstigen Lebensraum gefunden hat. Im Oktober findet ihr zu Ehren das Jujuba-Fest statt.
