Le Lac d'Allos

Le lac d'Allos est un lac perché à 2 228 m d'altitude dans le parc national du Mercantour, dans les Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Dominé par le mont Pelat (3 052 mètres), il est le plus grand lac naturel d'altitude en Europe.
Il s'étend sur 60 ha et a une profondeur atteignant 50 m.
Ce relief caractéristique est très récent.Il date des dernières glaciations qui recouvrent de glace la majeure partie des Alpes (il y a tant d'eau gelée sur les continents que le niveau des océans baisse d'une centaines de mètres et la Manches est asséchée !!!). Comme tous les glaciers en marche celui qui a recouvert ces reliefs était si puissant qu'il a sculpté et poli les roches tendres jusqu'a creuser cet immense cirque tout en laissant en saillie les verrrous.En se retirant, il nous a offert l'un des plus beaux lacs d'altitude des Alpes du Sud.
Explication sur les lacs de verrou : Les glaciers usent la roche par abrasion. Ce polissage se caractérise par les bosses arrondies des roches "moutonnées" ou les stries et cannelures gravées dans la roche, lorsque la glace en avançant rencontre une roche plus dure, il y a formation d'un verrou et un surcreusement au pied du verrou qui peut donner naissance à un lac lorsque le glacier se retire

The Allos lake is a lake perched at 2,228 m of altitude in the Mercantour National Park, in the Alpes-de- Haute-Provence .
Dominated by the mont Pelat (3,052 meters), it is the largest natural lake in altitude of Europe.
It extends over 60 ha and has a depth up to 50 m.
This relief characteristic is very recent.It date of last glaciation that iced the major part of the Alps (there are so many water frozen
on the continents that the level of the oceans decline of a hundred meters and Manche sea is dehumidified!!! ).As all the glaciers
that which has covered these landforms was so powerful that he has carved and polished the soft rock up to dig this huge circus
while leaving in the protrusion latches.In withdrawing, he offered us one of the most beautiful lakes of altitude of the Southern Alps.
Explanation on the lakes of lock: the glaciers wear the roche by abrasion.
