Geocache Description:

The Parish of St Philip the Deacon, Upper Stratton, Swindon

The current church was built in 1904 at the instigation of the Arkell’s family and opened in 1905.  A local architect (William Masters of Stanton Fitzwarren) was responsible for the design of the present building and the foundation stone was laid by Edith Arkell. For the first 27 years, St Philip’s had the status of a daughter church in St Margaret’s Parish and was served by a curate.

This church has special meaning to me as it was the first church I can remember visiting. Most of my siblings were christened here and I attended the Sunday school and was a cub in its church hall.

Parking is very close by.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.

There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
