Le lavoir de Chavagneux est situé dans un petit quartier tranquille de la commune de Meximieux, ville qui contient bien d'autres lavoirs dans ses rues. Il fut construit en 1873 et fut en partie rénové en 2001 et 2002 par l'association internationale CONCORDIA. Il est alimenté par diverses sources en provenance de la colline. L'abreuvoir alimentait les habitants en eau fraîche l'été jusqu'aux années 1950. Autrefois, le lieu se nommait "Gnieux" et on disait également qu'un chat s'y rendait souvent, d'où le nom "Chavagneux".

The washhouse of Chavagneux is located in a quiet area of the town of Meximieux, a city which contains many other washhouses in its streets. It was built in 1873 and was renovated in 2001 and 2002 by an International Association called CONCORDIA. It is supplied by various sources from the hill. The trough fed the inhabitants of fresh water in the summer until the 1950s. Formerly, the place was called "Gnieux" and people said that a cat ("chat" in french) often went there, hence the name "Chavagneux".
