We call this GO FLY ANOTHER KITE for two reasons: first, we used to
hike up here and fly (and almost lose) kites when we lived in
Glendale, and, second, we had a cache in Laguna Beach called GO FLY
A KITE that was archived after Mr. Ranger came and took it away.
It's an interesting spot that quite often will be great for kite
flying, and always gives you a view you may never have had before.
So:
You can reach the trailhead easily by car: if you're coming from
the Westside, exit the 134 at Harvey and head north until it T's at
Chevy Chase. Make a right on Chevy Chase and head up the canyon a
mile or two until you find Linda Vista, just past the entrance to
the Chevy Chase "Country Club" and golf course. Head right on Linda
Vista and procede to the crest of the hill, where you make a right
on Figueroa and head up the hill until it dead-ends at the
trailhead.
From Pasadena, the first left on Orange Grove north of the
134/210 is Holly St. Take this down the hill (west) and bear right
at the bottom, which will put you on Linda Vista. Head north until
you hit a traffic light, where you'll make a left on Lida St. and
head up the hill past Art Center until you hit the crest, where
you'll make a left on Figueroa and take that up the hill to the end
where it dead-ends at the trailhead.
Trailhead is: N34.09.989, W118.11.297. Head up the hill and
you're on your own from there! The only tricky part is the first
hill. It's pretty slippery, but you'll be up and over in a minute
or two.
Cache is in a Tupperware container and has an assortment of
goodies for adult and child alike. Our two kids had no problem
making it up and there, and I'll bet you won't either!!
