Geocache Description:

LV: Slēpnis atrodas Bārbeles sēravota tuvumā, tā ir maza lock&lock kārbiņa.

EN: The cache is located near the sulfur spring of the Barbele and it is a small lock&lock box.

LV: Bārbeles avota vēsture ir visai sena. 1651. gadā hercogs Jēkabs pavēlēja pie Bārbeles sēravota iekārtot pirmo dziedniecības iestādi Latvijā.

1739. gadā pie šī avota atvērta pirmā sērūdens dziedniecības iestāde Latvijā, tiesa gan tā bijusi domāta vien Kurzemes hercogu vajadzībām. Klīda runas, ka avots spēj dziedēt labāk par visām zālēm. Bārbeles sēravots bija ļoti slavens, līdz to izkonkurēja Baldones Svētavots un Ķemeri. Kūrortā dziedniecībai pielietots tikai sērūdens, sēra vannu veidā.

To apliecina fakts, ka 1739. gadā Rīgas garnizona ārsts Benjamiņš Teofils Grofs uz šo sēravotu veda dziedināt 10 karavīrus. No 10 karavīriem B.T. Grofs izārstējis pilnībā 9, neizdevās izārstēt tikai vienu, kuram bijusi lauzta kāja...

Tā kā avots atrodas aktīvā karstu zonā, tad kāda kritene ir ietekmējumi avota virzību. 19. gs. 20.-30.

Un nesatraucieties – aromātu var just joprojām.

EN:

The history of this sulfur spring dates back to 17th century, when the duke Jackob ordered to build the first healing institution in Latvia just nearby the sulfur spring of the Barbele.

In 1739 the first sulfur water healing institution was opened, but it was a privilege of the dukes to enjoy it. There were rumors that this water can heal better than any medicine and this sulfur spring became very famous until the sulfur springs in Baldone and Kemeri took its place. Only water from the sulfur spring was used in the spa procedures.

It was proven that in 1739 doctor from Riga – Benjamin Teofil Grof took 10 soldiers to the spa to heal them. In the end, doctor was able to heal 9 of the 10 soldiers taken to the spa, and the one which could not be healed had a broken leg. It is said that water from the sulfur spring came like a fountain as high as the human height and flowed with such a strength, it could be used to power the mill. There was a belief patients had to use a part of their clothing as a donation to the spring.

The spring was located in the area of active sinkholes, so one of them affected the flow of the spring. In the beginning of the 19th century people felt that spring is losing its power and healing abilities. It was still used to heal rheumatism till the World War II. Bath house was burnt down during the war and was not restored afterwards.

As the time went by, sulfur concentration in the spring reduced, but you can still feel the aroma of the spring. Spring is located only 50 meters from the coast of the river Iecava.
