Up until a few years ago this road was gravel covered and ran a slightly different route. When it came time to repair the bridge in near by Port Dover the town realized there was a little problem. Traffic would need to be re-directed at times during the rebuild ,and the lift bridge would be closed to all traffic at other times.
This was the closes way to get to the other side of town. At that time they decided to pave the road. There was a lot of work involved as they would need to smooth out some of the corners and change some of the drainage along the road. They decided that this would make the best route for emergency vehicles also in the future if something was to happen with the liftbridge in town and it could not be used.
A big factor in this decision was this bridge was pretty new as bridges go. A few years before this I'm going to say 10 or so it had been replaced .The old one had seen better days. The old bridge had sat much lower to the water then the new one, in fact I can remember seeing water run over it instead of under it a few times. I have heard stories of people trying to cross it at these times and being trapped on the bridge until the water went down or help arrived. ( before cell phones)
As kids we spent a lot of time in the area fishing, hiking, just being out doors. A lot of things have changed over the years but the creek is still there, the fish still bite, and you can still hike on the south east side of the creek.
