Church Micro 5572...Shinfield Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Leeroy71: I'm archiving all of my caches due to a change in circumstances, on-going problems with pain/ injury and following feedback from a fellow cacher.

Thanks to all of you who visited and enjoyed my caches and to those who didn't enjoy them, sorry but I tried my best. It's time to let somebody else have a go.

When able in the future, I still hope to get out and about finding the odd cache.

Geocache Description:

A simple Multi cache at the very attractive St. Mary's Church in Shinfield. This requires the finder to visit the Church and graveyard to gather information to work out the final coordinates, which will then lead you to the cache near by, which is outside the church boundary.

The cache is NOT at the published coordinates. The published coordinates are for St. Mary's Church itself where you will need to visit first. There is parking for a few cars right outside the Church and along Church Lane.

A brief bit of History for you.....

The original church was built in 1069 by the Lord of the Manor, a Norman knight who was installed by William the Conqueror. It was rebuilt in 1170 and the present north doorway survives from that time. The original tower was built in 1630.The present building at Shinfield was largely put up in the decorated style of the 14th century, and still retains the original nave roof with a fine array of huge timbers in an uncommon form. It does, however, incorporate parts of an older building, as particularly evidenced by its good Norman doorway (late 12th century).

During the Civil War, a group of retreating Royalist troops took refuge in St Mary's Church and took up a strategic position at the top of the tower. However, the Parliamentarians soon arrived and, surrounding the building, blasted the men out of the sky! Cannon balls was the weapon of choice and the tower and bells were thus left a ruin and, it was not rebuilt until four years after the Restoration of the Monarchy, in 1664. It was then decided to rebuild in Berkshire brick, the clay for which was dug from the fields opposite.

So on to the coordinates part...

You will need to find 3 graves with 'George' mentioned on them, that are within the church graveyard, to gather some numbers. I have included the coords of the graves and photos in the 'Image Gallery' if you need them.

1st=(51° 24.488'N  0° 57.154'W) "George Fulbrook, Died in South Afghanistan. June AB 1880"= AB

2nd=(51° 24.498'N  0° 57.127'W) "Charlotte with of George Rapley of Shinfield. Died April CD 1875"= CD

3rd=(51° 24.521'N  0° 57.155'W) "George Breedon Hulme. Born Aug EF 1855"= EF

The cache can be found at the following location;

N 51° 24.(B-A)(C-E)(F-A) W 000° 56.(C+F)F(D+E)

You are looking for a small camo'd 'Mini Decon' container. Please ensure that the cache is well covered back up.
