Geocache Description:

This is the first cache in a series of 25 that have been placed along two National WalkingTrails, The North Downs Way and The Saxon Shoreway from Capel le Ferne to Dover. The caches have been set with permission from Natural England and The White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. Some of these areas are set in areas of SSSI. Please avoid disturbance of plants and animals.

**CONGRATULATIONS!**
WulfyGeo FTF on 22 August 2014

This series of caches is a long term legacy of the popular 2014 White Cliffs Walking Festival week. Over a thousand people attended a multiple choice of events, tailored to suit everybody. This is the first time that Geocaching has been provided by Ramblers and featured in their programme.

No caches have been hidden near the cliff edge or inside any of the buildings on the route. My first consideration has been the safety of cachers and their families.

The local Ramblers celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2014, so that is why 25 caches have been set. They include a bonus cache called ‘Celebrating 25’. Clues for this special cache are hidden in this series.  Don’t forget to write down the details as you find them and you will have the co-ordinates.

If you find all 25 caches you will qualify for a Harveyjj badge for your profile.

Please bring a pen for all caches - if you do not physically sign the logsheet please DO NOT log a 'Found It' log online, otherwise your log may be deleted. Tools for probing and extracting will be required for some of the caches.

Many public rights of way are now being improved by Ramblers and local walkers who are giving their time on a voluntary basis. They are also providing voluntary labour to install new stiles, steps, kissing gates, safety rails and bridges. This work has been undertaken for the benefit and enjoyment of all walkers. They want to encourage more people to use public rights of way and keep them open safe for the enjoyment of future generations. What better way to get people to use footpaths than to set a few geocaches.

This route has been designed to start from Capel le Ferne because the ascent is less strenuous in this direction. The clues for the multi caches are based on the same direction. The caches are hidden along a five mile stretch of the cliff top footpath to Dover, often passing through public access land. You will see many reminders of past wartime activity. The entire area is shrouded in centuries of history. You will also pass over Samphire Hoe, reclaimed land created from the spoil removed during the drilling of the Channel Tunnel.

This cache can be found as a single, or be the start of a breathtaking linear 6 mile walk to Dover across the legendary White Cliffs.  On a clear day you can see across the English Channel to France.  Sadly, we can't promise you any blue birds over the White Cliffs of Dover, but we can offer you some decent caches to add that extra bit of fun.

Please be aware that there are several steep climbs up and down steps and hills. Some paths can become very slippery when wet. In some parts the route is very close to the cliff edge.

Series start point The V S bus stop Capel le Ferne N51 05.829 E001 12.052 (Route 101/102) is close to the path entrance N51 05.811 E001 12.024 at the start of the walk.

Series end point Dover N51 06.883 E001 18.321. The M Factory bus stop. (Route 61). The bus will take you to Dover Bus Station (via Aycliffe), where you can catch a bus back to Capel le Ferne. Please check the local bus time-table before you set out. Especially during weekends and Bank Holidays. If you take the underpass nearby you can easily walk into Dover town from here.

THE BONUS CACHE IS NOT HIDDEN ALONG THIS TRAIL. PLEASE READ THE DETAILS OF GC59GFZ CELEBRATING 25.

The cache:

If you access this cache from the starting waypoint given, you will be walking through an area dedicated as open access land. It is the site of the WW2 Capel Battery and underground dressing station. For detailed information, take a look at GC4EQ7A
