Geocache Description:

Newark Park stands proud on top of the Cotswold escarpment, looking down into the Ozleworth valley to the Mendips beyond. This remote corner of south Gloucestershire is a secret and unspoilt place, with barely a sign of modern life visible in any direction. A place of architectural intrigue, quaint gardens and sprawling parkland there is much to see and do at Newark. This geocache is part of a new series (Spring 2014) at National Trust Newark Park. They are a way for people to explore and engage with this beautiful estate.

Some of the paths are quite steep and can be muddy. Some pass through fields, which at some times of year have livestock in them (sheep / young cows). Please close all gates behind you.

You can park in the National Trust visitor’s car park; admission charges apply to visit the house and gardens and three of the caches are within the garden area. The other geocaches are all located on public rights of way and so are accessible year round without charge.

The weather vane, ‘Spike the dragon’, at Newark Park has surveyed the valley since around 1550. Spike has a very ordered mind so please keep to the spirit of the title of his caches if you do any swops!

Please note: this geocache is within the garden area. Please check National Trust/Newark Park website for opening times.

This cache is a medium clip top box that had been camouflaged to blend in with the fauna. The cache contains Spike’s old coins & toy money and log book & pencil.
