Saint-Lubin-Des-Cinq-Fonts tire son nom de Saint-Lubin, un ermite qui s'établit ici au VIe siècle, et Cinq-Fonts pour les cinq fontaines qui y coulaient. Le hameau est construit en paliers sur le flanc nord-ouest d'une colline surplombant la vallée de la Rhone.
