As I have been to some really neat cemeteries recently, I noticed that there are some really neat headstones that people have created for their loved ones. Some have really neat etchings with their picture, and some have hobbies, sports teams, etc also carved into them.
As I was placing this cache and gathering information, I ran into an older gentleman walking and we struck up a conversation. He knows where almost every person is buried in this location, and for a lot of them, how they died.
I actually got to walk around with him for almost 2 hours listening to the stories he had about people that were buried there. One that stood out in my mind the most was a man who passed away at the age of 49 from an accident falling off a ladder. He had lost his job recently and was doing odd jobs to make some money and ended up falling 30ft off a ladder. He was engaged at the time of his death, and to this day, almost 4 years later, his fiancé still comes out on a daily basis Mon-Fri around noon over her lunch hour to visit him.
Towards the end of our walk, he guided me to one specific monument. It was a standard gray monument with a name and birthdate and no death date, which is more normal now than most people think. He then proceeded to explain that this was his monument and that this is where he chose to be buried at.
Some people might not get why another person would do that, but after talking and walking with the gentleman the day I placed it, I have a bigger sense of respect for these places and the stories they hold.
