Geocache Description:

(Adapted from the Baptist Church website, and A Summary History of Saffron Walden Baptist Church 12th edition 2009)

The Baptist Church origins in Saffron Walden date back to the 1600s, with a church later known as Abbey Lane Congregational Church and now the United Reformed Church, being the forerunner of Saffron Walden’s 3 Baptist Churches

Around 1708 some people disaffected by the Abbey Lane minister’s preaching began meeting privately in a house in Gold Street where in 1711 a General Baptist Church was formed following Arminianism, moving to Hill Street in 1725.

The Baptist Church came to its present site in 1774. In June of that year, 4 cottages and an orchard were purchased by a Miss Elizabeth Fuller of Saffron Walden. The plot was at the junction of Cucking Stool End and Bailey's Lane

In the same year the Georgian Chapel was build on the plot of ground and opened for worship in the November. The building is still in use today.

The main chapel in use today was built in 1879 over the graveyard. It cost £4000. A major renovation of the building was completed in November 2003.

The cache

You are looking for a film canister. Please ensure you put it back exactly as found to ensure it is not visible to the passing by muggles. GZ is accesible to wheelchairs, but assistance would be needed to get the cache itself

**Congrats to ryo62 and poshrule for FTF**

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.

There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
