ince 1996, the Civil War Trust has sponsored Park Day, an annual hands-on preservation event to help Civil War battlefields and historic sites take on maintenance projects large and small.
Activities are chosen by each participating site to meet their own particular needs and can range from raking leaves and hauling trash to painting signs and trail building.
This year Park Day will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at participating sites. The nationwide effort is underwritten with a grant from History™, formerly The History Channel, and is recognized by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a "Take Pride in America" event.
Meet at the Wilson's Creek Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m. for registration. Work will begin at 9 a.m.
Activities will include roadside/trail clean up, and landscaping/clean up around the Visitor Center, Ray House and cemeteries.
Bring work gloves, hat, work boots, and sunscreen. (Last year gloves were provided for us)
You dont need to stay the whole time from 9 to 12. You can come anytime during the time period. They do say coming in after 9 will be a little more tricky since they would having to track down rangers to guide you to where you need to go and what to do. Leaving earlier wont be a problem according to the rangers. For those who came last year it will be pretty much the same things, we got out earlier than the noon.
At the end of the day we will take a group photo.
If you need more information about it, you can contact Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, or look at their website for more information.
