Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT inside the cemetery.

San Jose de Armijo Cemetery is part of the long standing Atrisco Land Grant (formed in 1692). This land grant stretched from the Rio Grande to the Rio Puerco in the west. From the north at the edge of the volcanic escarpment the land grant ran to the lands of Antonio Baca in the south.

The people of Atrisco (which is part of Albuquerque) retained control of the lands until 2006 when most of them were sold to SunCal (from Westland Corporation) which is a land development company from California.

It is only ancestors of the original land grant owners that are allowed to be buried in this cemetery now. There are about 5 burials here in a month.
