Geocache Description:

Alsume’s 27th cache brings you to Allard Park in East Brunswick, a sports ground where Mr A spent many hours in his youth kicking a footy around. The goals have been moved a bit since those days and the surrounds have been landscaped with now well established trees.

The park joins directly on to Jones Park, which was a brickworks in earlier times. Jones Park is a large park with playground, BBQ facilities and more. It is an off-lead location for dogs, and can be used for children's parties, family get togethers and small festivals/events of up to 500 people. Some events will require a permit from the Council – details at http://www.moreland.vic.gov.au/arts-and-festivals/arts-activities-venues/outdoor-spaces-moreland.html .

Jones Reserve has concrete pathways to take walkers in an approximate twenty minute circle around the park. The stroll includes a single hill climb, that once completed, rewards walkers with great views from the top of a tiered, platform. All of the tall buildings of Melboune's CBD can be seen from there and way out on the opposite horizon, the outline of Mount Dandenong is visible. The approach to Allard Park is near the tiered platform.

To find the cache you will need to get some information. The header coordinates will place you in front of a sign to the Park (not Jones Park) from which you will need to find the following:

  1. Distance from playground that is no smoking = A metres
  2. Finishing time of alcohol restrictions = B am
  3. Second number in phone number = C

Find the final South coordinates by subtracting (B-A) to the decimal part of the header coordinates, and the final East coordinates by adding (A+B+C) to the decimal part of the header coordinates.

The cache, as the title implies, is within kicking distance of the goals – although not on the field of play. On match days the difficulty rating might be a bit higher! So put the footy in the bag for a kick and grab the cache while you’re there!

Don’t forget there is another cache in Jones Park as well.
