Une cache "drive in" pour vous parler de Sepx, un village au passé lié à celui de l'abbaye de Bonnefont. (Voir L'abbaye de Bonnefont)
En effet, au Moyen Age, Sepx était une seigneurie dont le titre et les droits appartenaient en propre aux abbés commendataires de l'abbaye cistercienne de Bonnefont, située en partie sur le territoire de la commune.
C'est d'ailleurs sur ce même territoire que l'on peut encore voir une petite partie du mur d'enceinte de l'abbaye, sur une longueur de 800m. A l'origine, au XIIe siècle, ce mur ceinturait l'abbaye sur une distance de 1 500m. D'une hauteur de 2,50m par endroits, il était composé de petites pierres calcaires non taillées, liées à la chaux.
L'église Notre Dame de l'Assomption a été remaniée au XIXe siècle, avec notamment la réalisation d'une surélévation, la création de nouvelles ouvertures, ainsi que l'emmurement de la porte d'entrée gothique originelle.
Sur la façade sud-ouest, le clocher fortifié remonte à 1326. C'est un clocher-mur trangulaire aux tours crénelées à baies campanaires, d'un style fréquent dans le Lauragais.
Le blason de la famille Mauléon qui, au XVIe siècle, comptait les anciens abbés commendataires de l'abbaye de Bonnefont et seigneurs de Sepx, est sculpté sur le clocher. Il figure un lion rugissant, emblème de la famille.

A "park and grab" cache to tell you about Sepx, a village whose past is linked to that of the abbey of Bonnefont. (See L'abbaye de Bonnefont)
Indeed, in the Middle Ages, Sepx was a lordship whose title and rights belonged to commendatory abbots of the Cistercian abbey of Bonnefont, partly located on the territory of the municipality.
Moreover, it is in that same territory that a small part of the wall of the abbey can still be seen, over a length of 800m. Originally, in the twelfth century, this wall stretched around the abbey over a distance of 1 500 meters. At a height of 2.50 m in places, it was composed of small uncut limestone stones linked with lime.
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption was rebuilt in the nineteenth century, including the creation of an elevation, the creation of new openings and the walling of the original Gothic door entrance.
On the southwest side, the fortified steeple dates back to 1326. It is a triangular wall belfry with crenellated towers with campanarian windows, a common style in the Lauragais.
The Schield of the Mauléon family who, in the sixteenth century, had the ancient commendatory abbots of the Cistercian abbey of Bonnefont and lords of Sepx, is carved on the steeple. It figures a roaring lion, emblem of the family.
