Getting 'high' with caching...

Challenge Cache

This cache is located just over 300m above sea level, on my favourite 'afternoon hill' - Bennachie. I usually access this path on the way back down from Mither Tap: once reaching the summit, drop down around the back and follow the other pathway down. This does lead you back to the Bennachie Centre car park, but I'm never quite sure how to find this going the other way: it doesn't seem to be as popular a route up / down Bennachie!

This is a challenge cache to encourage people to do a spot of hill walking, even if it is just a wee mound. Before you log this find, you will need to find and log 30 caches which are located at least 300m above sea level.

  • The cache's physical location must be 300m or higher, above sea level.
  • The caches can be from anywhere in the world.
  • Proof of your 300m or higher finds should be included with your log. Please include the cache GC number and it's altitude.
  • This final cache on Bennachie can be part of your 30 caches above 300m high.
  • (optional) Share your favourite 'high' cache story with your log! :)

If you need help finding the altitude of your previous finds, you can use various tools online. You can use the contour lines on the streetmap.co.uk option on geocaching.com, you can also use GSAK and project gc to work out heights and another one I've discovered is: http://www.earthtools.org/ which allows you to drag the map around to line up with a central pointer which tells you the altitude it is at. I have also been using an app on my iPhone in order to discover the altitude I am currently at, useful for those future caches you are still to complete!

Thank you to Sir Archie Grant, owner of Monymusk Estate who have allowed me to place this cache here in their wee triangle of land owned on Bennachie!

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
