Geocache Description:

This cache is a part of a multiple puzzle mega cache that started being created all over Greece in 2011 called Olympian Gods. However, it can be found separately as a puzzle cache.

To those who enter coordinates for Mega puzzle please subract from North 4 decimals and for East 2 decimals when entering coordinates to the related checker.

Hestia

The goddess of home, warmth, family and protection.

In Ancient Greek religion Hestia is a virgin goddess of the hearth, architecture, and the right ordering of domesticity, the family and the state. In Greek mythology she is a daughter of Cronus and Rhea.
Hestia received the first offering at every sacrifice in the household. In the public domain, the hearth of the prytaneum functioned as her official sanctuary.
With the establishment of a new colony, flame from Hestia's public hearth in the mother city would be carried to the new settlement. She sat on a plain wooden throne with a white woolen cushion and did not trouble to choose an emblem for herself. Her Roman equivalent is Vesta.
The cache is in neighborhood with almost all street walls adorned with works by renowned graffiti artists such Faitakis, Sonke, Batis, Cacao Rocks, B, Scar One, This is Opium, Fotizontas, Barnes (dec), Quits, Yiakou, Senor, Ntokos, Lavdas, Dreyk the Pirate, Vasmoulakis, Ser, Simoni and WD.
The greek graffiti scene is becoming more and more popular every day. All graffiti artists are part of the graffiti society that forms a global family. This area is the house of these artists where they can get inspiration and create.
In the area there is a guesthouse for graffiti artists from around the world that want to offer to this area. So, in a way it is the Estia of graffiti!
This inner city neighborhood has had a difficult time over the past 10 years with drugs, crime and a large influx of new residents from overseas needing to find refuge.
This area is rich with some of the best street art in Europe. The target is to expand on this amazing asset and to work with Greek and International artists to further create an art hub in.
To do so the name ART² (art squared) has been selected. ART² is an urban renewal project that works with artists creating in the streets of Psirri bordered by the streets Evmorfopoulou, Sarri, Epikourou and Sachtouri.
A co operation has recently been formed between the members of the local small community including elderly Greeks, Bangladeshi and Chinese migrants, young Greeks who are mostly without work and the increasing amounts of Greek people slowly returning to the area with their young families.
The target is to encourage street artists, sculptors, photographers, performance and installation artists who work in the streets, in fact creative people of all types who wish to gift something of themselves or their work to the neighbouthood.
Two galleries are located in ART²: Skord-Art and Gallery @ Sarri 12, and both show the street artists’ works on paper, canvas, cardboard and other found media.
Those galleries in association with local businesses, offer a residency program for visiting artists. The details of which can be found on the related link.
The street of Evmorfopoulou has an amazing garden of eucalyptus, banana trees and other plants, which has been created by the renowned urban gardener CT. As well CT has created two small gardens in converted packing crates outside of Gallery @ Sarri 12.

Εστία

Η θεά της οικογένειας, του σπιτιού, της θαλπωρής και της προστασίας

Στην ελληνική μυθολογία, η Εστία είναι η θεά της εστίας, της οικιακής ζωής και της οικογένειας, η οποία λάμβανε την πρώτη προσφορά σε κάθε θυσία στο σπιτικό, αλλά δεν είχε δημόσια λατρεία. Στην Ρωμαϊκή μυθολογία η σχεδόν αντίστοιχή της ήταν η Βέστα, που προσωποποιούσε τη δημόσια εστία, και της οποίας η λατρεία έδενε τους Ρωμαίους με μια μορφή εκτεταμένης οικογένειας.
Το όνομά της σημαίνει “σπίτι και εστία”: το σπιτικό και τους κατοίκους του. Η Εστία συμβολίζει την συμμαχία μεταξύ των αποικιών και των μητέρων-πόλεών τους και είναι η μεγαλύτερη κόρη της Ρέας και του Κρόνου, αδερφή των Δία, της Ήρας, του Άδη του Ποσειδώνα και της Δήμητρας. Αμέσως μετά την γέννησή τους, ο Κρόνος κατάπιε την Εστία και τα αδέρφια της εκτός από τον Δία, ο οποίος αργότερα τους διέσωσε και τους οδήγησε σε πόλεμο εναντίον του Κρόνου και των άλλων Τιτάνων. Αρχικά εντασσόταν στους Δώδεκα Ολύμπιους, αλλά αργότερα αντικαταστάθηκε από τον Διόνυσο. Έκείνη φρόντιζε την ιερή φωτιά στον Όλυμπο. Οι βωμοί της υπήρχαν σε κάθε οικογενειακή εστία.
Η Εστία ορκίστηκε να παραμείνει για πάντα παρθένα και αρνήθηκε στα καλέσματα του Ποσειδώνα και του Απόλλωνα.
Η Εστία, η Αθηνά και η Άρτεμη ήταν οι μόνες Θεές που πάνω τους δεν είχε δύναμη η Αφροδίτη (που είχε υποτάξει το σύνολο Θεών και ανθρώπων)

Η Ελληνική σκηνή γκραφίτι γίνεται όλο και πιο γνωστή. Οι γραφιτάδες είναι μια ομάδα πολύ δεμένη παγκοσμίως που αναγνωρίζονται μεταξύ τους σαν μέλη μιας οικογένειας!
Μία συνεργασία που ξεκίνησε πρόσφατα, συντονίζεται από τα μέλη μιάς μικρής κοινότητας και περιλαμβάνει τους παλιούς κατοίκους της γειτονιάς, τους μετανάστες από το Μπαγκλαντές και την Κίνα και νέους και οικογένειες που επιστρέφουν στην περιοχή.
Σκοπός είναι να δημιουργηθεί μια ασφαλής κοινότητα, χωρίς αποκλεισμούς, για να ζωντανέψει η γειτονιά και να γίνει ένα μερος όπου να μπορεί κανείς να ζήσει και να δημιουργήσει.
Η περιοχή είναι πλούσια σε γκραφίτι, κάποια από τα οποία είναι από τα καλύτερα της Ευρώπης. Αποφασίστηκε να συνεχιστεί αυτό το έργο και να επεκταθεί και σε άλλους δρόμους όπου θα δημιουργήσουν Έλληνες και ξένοι καλλιτέχνες έτσι ώστε να δημιουργηθει μια καλλιτεχνική εστία.
Έτσι ξεκίνησε το ART² (art στο τετράγωνο).
Αυτό είναι ένα πρόγραμμα ανανέωσης της πόλης, που βασίζεται σε καλλιτέχνες που δημιουργούν στους δρόμους του Ψυρρή, και οριοθετείται από τους δρόμους Ευμορφοπούλου, Σαρρή, Επικούρου και Σαχτούρη.
Στο τετράγωνο αυτο βρίσκονται δύο γκαλερί. Η Σκορδαρτ και η γκαλερί Σαρρή 12. Και στις δύο προβάλλονται οι δουλειές των street artists σε χαρτί, καμβά, χαρτόνια και άλλα μέσα.
Οι γκαλερί σε συνεργασία με τις τοπικές επιχειρήσεις, προσφέρουν ένα πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας για καλλιτέχνες που θέλουν να επισκεφθούν την Αθήνα. Στην περιοχή υπάρχει μια εστία των καλλιτεχνών του δρόμου, όπου μπορούν να εμπνευστούν και να δημιουργήσουν, και υπάρχει ένας ξενώνας που φιλοξενεί δωρεάν όποιον καλλιτέχνη γκραφίτι θέλει να επισκεφτεί τη γειτονιά και να προσφέρει ζωγραφίζοντας κάτι στο δρόμο!
Στην Ευμορφοπούλου βρίσκεται ένας υπέροχος κήπος από ευκάλυπτους, μπαμπανιές και άλλα φυτά, ο οποίος έχει φταχτεί από τον γνωστό δημιουργό αστικών κήπων CT. Ο CT έχει δημιουργήσει και τους δύο κήπους που βρίσκονται μπροστά από την γκαλλερί Σαρρή 12.
