On prête à cette chapelle de la Madeleine une histoire racontée en trois vitraux.
En l'an 900, le Viking Vieul-aux-Épaules échoue sur la plage après avoir juré de se faire chrétien s'il réchappait de la tempête. Il fonde une chapelle à deux pas du rivage. Quelques siècles plus tard, au XVIe, la chapelle est refaite par des navigateurs anglais sauvés d'un naufrage. Le 6 juin 1944, les hommes de la 1re Brigade spéciale du génie s'y recueillent.
Meurtrie par les combats, elle sera restaurée grâce à la générosité de Jean Schwob d'Héricourt débarqué ici avec les troupes françaises libres. Il avait fait le vœu d'aider à sa reconstruction, une fois la paix revenue. La nouvelle cloche fut refondue avec le bronze de l'ancienne cloche datant de 1656. Nouvelle cloche, nouveaux vitraux, nouveaux bancs... La bénédiction de la chapelle restaurée eut lieu le 22 juillet 1959.

In the year 900, the Viking Vieul-aux-Epaules washes ashore after having sworn to become a Christian if he survived the storm. He founded a chapel close to the shore. Several centuries later, in the sixteenth, the chapel was rebuilt by British sailors rescued from a shipwreck. On 6 June 1944, the men of the 1st Engineer Brigade Special pray there.
