[PL] Osiedle Przyjaźń to chyba jedno z najprzyjemniejszych miejsc do spacerów w całym mieście. Klimat tego miejsca jest niepowtarzalny - budynki przypominają nieco zabytkowe dworki, a całe osiedle może budzić skojarzenia z ośrodkiem wypoczynkowym z czasów PRL. Pełno tu zieleni, panuje sielska, spokojna i kameralna atmosfera, niespotykana na sąsiadujących blokowiskach.
Osiedle powstało w 1952 roku dla radzieckich robotników zatrudnionych przy wznoszeniu Pałacu Kultury. Według niepotwierdzonej informacji część budynków pochodzi z rozbiórki dawnego niemieckiego obozu jenieckiego (Stalagu) I B „Hohenstein” koło Olsztynka (podobno niektórzy mieszkańcy znajdowali później niemiecki napisy na elementach budynków), inna wersja głosi, że chodziło o rozbiórkę przedwojennego osiedla, a nie obozu jenieckiego.
Osiedle zostało wybudowane jako samowystarczalne, tak aby jego mieszkańcy nie mieli potrzeby wychodzić na zewnątrz. Na terenie osiedla mieli zapewnione całe zaplecze socjalne - stołówkę, bibliotekę, kino. Do pracy przy budowie Pałacu byli wożeni autobusami. Zwykli robotnicy zamieszkali w dużych parterowych budynkach z wieloosobowymi salami, natomiast dla inżynierów wzniesiono niewielkie wille - parterowe z poddaszem. W osobnych budynkach znalazły się stołówka i łaźnia, wspólne dla całego osiedla. Prawie wszystkie budynki wykonano z drewna, dlatego często nazywane są domkami fińskimi.
Po zakończeniu budowy Pałacu Kultury osiedle przekazano warszawskim uczelniom. Dawne domy robotnicze stały się akademikami, a w dawnych domkach inżynierskich zamieszkali pracownicy uczelni z rodzinami. W większości budynki pełnią te funkcje do dziś. Zmieniło się tylko przeznaczenie budynków stanowiących dawniej zaplecze socjalne osiedla - dziś pełnią komercyjne funkcje.
Pomimo, że skrzynka jest zarejestrowana jako jeden multicache, to tak naprawdę cała seria skrzynek (tyle że położonych bliżej od siebie niż przepisowe 161 m). Aby odnaleźć skrzynkę finałową, należy odwiedzić jeden punkt wirtualny (we współrzędnych początkowych) oraz odnaleźć 6 skrzynek pośrednich, umiejscowionych przy charakterystycznych obiektach osiedla. W ich logbookach znajdziemy 6 cyfr, od A do F, które pozwolą na obliczenie współrzędnych skrzynki finałowej. Kolejność etapów nie sugeruje optymalnej trasy spaceru.
Etap 0 - wirtualny - współrzędne: N 52° 14.244 E 020° 55.341
Znajdziemy tu pewien obiekt pamiętający czasy budowy osiedla (w porze zimowej może być pod śniegiem). Należy policzyć, ile znajduje się na nim liter M i zanotować tą wielkość jako cyfrę M.
Etap 1 - skrzynka pośrednia - Domy Robotnicze - obecnie domki studenckie i prywatne - współrzędne: N 52° 14.264 E 020° 55.387
Dawne domki robotnicze to najpopularniejszy typ budynku na całym osiedlu - długie, parterowe, przypominające wyglądem skromne dworki. Dziś w większości (30 sztuk) mieszczą prywatne mieszkania, sporą część (23 sztuk) stanowią akademiki, a pozostałe 10 służą funkcjom komercyjnym (znajdują się tu m.in. biblioteka, sklep czy klub sportowy).

Etap 2 - skrzynka pośrednia - Stołówka - obecnie budynek komercyjny - współrzędne: N 52° 14.222 E 020° 55.095
Budynek, do obejrzenia którego zachęca skrzynka, to dawna stołówka. W czasach świetności osiedla zapewniała żywienie wszystkim jego mieszkańcom. Dziś, gdy nie ma już zapotrzebowania na taką funkcję, budynek mieści różnorodne punkty usługowe.
Obiekt jest dość monumentalny, uwagę zwraca mnogość detali architektonicznych - półokrągłe okna, daszki i niewielka kolumnada od strony zachodniej. Niestety jakość użytych materiałów nie była najwyższa i całość jest już w dość marnym stanie technicznym. Budynkowi nie dodają też urody liczne reklamy poprzyczepiane ze wszystkich stron. Mimo to, jest ciekawy i oryginalny.

Etap 3 - skrzynka pośrednia - Domki Inżynierskie - obecnie domki prywatne - współrzędne N 52° 14.172 E 020° 55.136
W południowo-zachodniej części osiedla znajduje się 77 niewielkich, piętrowych willi, zbudowanych pierwotnie dla inżynierów pracujących przy budowie Pałacu Kultury. W późniejszym okresie przekazano je pracownikom warszawskich uczelni, w większości przypadków ich rodziny mieszkają tu do dziś. Domki są naprawdę sympatyczne, mają niewielkie rozmiary, ale bardzo funkcjonalne wnętrze. Wiele z nich zostało elegancko odnowionych przez właścicieli. Każdy z nich otoczony niedużym ogródkiem.

Etap 4 - skrzynka pośrednia - Łaźnia - obecnie pralnia i magiel - współrzędne: N 52° 14.230 E 020° 55.024
Ten budynek wyróżnia ceglana elewacja, jest jednym z nielicznych murowanych budynków na osiedlu. Dawniej mieściła się tu łaźnia - jedna dla całego osiedla ! Dziś łazienki są już w każdym z budynków, więc budynek ma już inną funkcję, choć nieco pokrewną do pierwotnej - mieści pralnię i magiel. Architektura budynku jest bardzo interesująca - zwłaszcza część wejściowa, od ulicy Konarskiego, z trzema arkadami. Z tyłu znajduje się kolejny murowany budynek, z ceglanym kominem - kotłownia.

Etap 5 - skrzynka pośrednia - Boisko - teren zieleni osiedla - współrzędne: N 52° 14.104 E 020° 55.248
W południowo-wschodniej części osiedla znajduje się otwarte, trawiaste boisko - służące jako obiekt treningowy lokalnego klubu GKS Świt Warszawa. Gdy mecze nie są rozgrywane, jest to przyjemne miejsce rekreacyjne i spacerowe dla okolicznych mieszkańców.

Etap 6 - skrzynka pośrednia - Klub Robotniczy - obecnie klub studencki Karuzela - współrzędne: N 52° 14.200 E 020° 55.166
To największy i centralny budynek osiedla, z dość monumentalnym wejściem w formie portyku. Ulokowano go ‘na honorowym miejscu’, na zamknięciu północnego odcinka ulicy Konarskiego. Przed budynkiem znajduje się przestrzeń, która dawniej była placem a obecnie częściowo już porosła drzewami i ma bardziej formę skweru.
Obiekt jest głównym ośrodkiem życia kulturalnego i rozrywkowego na osiedlu - dawniej mieścił klub robotniczy, a dziś znajduje się tu popularny klub studencki „Karuzela” - miejsce licznych imprez i koncertów.

[EN] ‘Friendship’ Estate is probably one of most pleasant places for a walk in the whole city. The atmosphere of this place is unique - the buildings look a bit like manors, and the area may bring associations to a holiday camp from communistic times in Poland. The district is full of green, it is idyllic and calm, differently than the surrounding districts with blocks of flats.
The district was founded in 1952 as a place to live for Soviet workers, who were employed by the construction of Palace of Culture. An unconfirmed information says that some of the houses were brought here from the disassembled former German prisoner camp (Stalag) I B “Hohenstein” near Olsztynek in northern Poland. Supposedly, some inhabitants found later German inscriptions on the buildings’ elements. Other version reports that it was not a prisoner camp, but a pre-war estate.
The aim was to create a self-sustainable estate, so that its inhabitants had no need to walk outside. The full social facilities were provided here - canteen, library, cinema. The workers were transported to the construction of Palace of Culture by buses. Simple workers lived it big, one-floored houses, and small one-family houses were constructed for engineers. A canteen was situated in a separate building, as well as the bathhouse, one for the whole estate. Nearly all buildings were made of wood, this is why they are sometimes called Finnish houses.
After the construction of Palace of Culture was finished and Soviet workers moved out, the estate was handed over to Warsaw’s high schools. The big houses became student dormitories, and university workers with families moved to former engineers’ houses. Most of the buildings held those functions until today. Only the function of former social building changed - today they have mainly commercial use.
Although the cache is registered as a multicache, it is in fact the whole series of traditional caches (but they are located closer to each other than 161 m). To find the final cache, it is necessary to visit one virtual point (located at the initial coordinates) and also to find
6 stage-caches, which are located at the characteristic places of the district. In their logbooks you will find 6 digits, from A to F, that will be essential to count the final coordinates. The sequence of the caches does not suggest the optimal route.

Former workers’ houses is the most popular type of the building in the estate - they are long, one-floored, may bring associations with a small mansion. Today in most of them (30 buildings) there are private flats, a lot of them (23 buildings) are student dormitories and the rest 10 are of commercial use (among other things: library, shop, hotel and sports club).

The building the cache is connected with is a former canteen. In the time when Palace of Culture’s workers used to live in the estate, it was a place where meals were provided to all of them. Today, when there is no longer demand for such function, the building is of commercial use.
The building is quite monumental, it is full of architectural details - semi-circled windows, small roofs, and a colonnade from the western side. Unfortunately, the quality of materials used for the construction was not very high and today the whole building is in rather poor technical condition. Also, lots of advertisements, attached to it from every side, do not make it look better. Despite that, the building is really interesting and original.

Stage 3 - stage cache - Engineers' Houses - coordinates: N 52° 14.172 E 020° 55.136
In south-western part of the estate there are 77 small, two-floored houses, which had been initially built for engineers who worked by the construction of Palace of Culture. Later, there were taken over by Warsaw universities and given to their lecturers. Many of their families live here till today. The houses are really very nice, they are tiny, but have a very comfortable interior. Many of them were renovated very elegantly by their owners. Each house is surrounded by a small garden.

Stage 4 - stage cache - Bathhouse - today a laundry and a mangle - coordinates: N 52° 14.230 E 020° 55.024
What distinguishes this building is a brick elevation, this is one of only a few brick buildings in the district. Initially it was a bathhouse - the only one for the whole district ! Today there are bathrooms in all buildings off course, so the building has a different function, but a bit similar to the previous one - it is a laundry and a mangle. The building’s architecture is very interesting - especially the front side, from Konarskiego street, with three arcades. Behind the building, at the back, there is another brick building with a high chimney - a boiler house.

Stage 5 - stage cache - Playground - a green area of the district - coordinates: N 52° 14.104 E 020° 55.248
In the south-eastern part of the estate there is an open, green playground, which is a training place for local club GKS Świt Warszawa. When no match takes place, the area is a nice place of recreation for local inhabitants.

Stage 6 - stage cache - Workers' Club - today student club 'Carousel' - coordinates: N 52° 14.200 E 020° 55.166
This one is the biggest building of the district. It has a monumental entrance in a shape of a portico. It stands at the ending of Konarskiego street, in the central place of the estate. There is a small square in front of the building, it used to be quite empty monumental space but today it is green, filled with trees. The building is a centre of culture and entertainment of the estate - initially it used to be a workers’ club, today it is a popular student club “Karuzela” (“Carousel”) - a place where a lot of concerts and events often take place.

To find the final cache (of normal size) it is essential to get the digits of A, B, C, D, E, F (from stage caches) and M (from the virtual point).
