The story of Bairnsdale Technical School (BTS) starts with it's predecessor the Bairnsdale School of Mines. Planning for the School of the Mines started in late 1880's with the first classes on 9 Feb 1890.
A Technical School was opened in conjunction with the school of mines in 1917
In 1959 the school acquired Dahlsen's paddock which were prepared into oval/playing
fields. The oval, named the T.H Davison oval was opened in December 1960.
By 1969 the limitation of the school site became all too apparent.
But it wasn't until 1978 when the first classes started at the new site on McKean Street
Sometime in the late 90s or early 2000 the amalgamation of the Bairnsdale Technical and High
Schools into the Bairnsdale Secondary College.
The old school of mines / Bairnsdale Technical School site was develop into a TAFE college.
