A l'époque médiévale, la Corse était divisée en paroisses, appelées "pievi" en Corse. San Ghjuvan Battista di Cinarca datant du XIe siécle, était l'église principale de la "Pieve" de la Cinarca, construite vers 1125-1140 sur une petite colline, "poghju", déjà occupée à l'époque romaine, à peu près à équidistance d'un mille des différents villages et visible de chacun d'eux (voir l'article sur l'histoire de la Cinarca sur le site de la mairie de Sari d'Orcino).
En 1587, cette église fût visitée par Mgr Mascardi qui écrivait : "...elle est située dans un lieu champêtre vulgairement appelé Cinarchese... depuis de nombreuses années elle était découverte et à cause de cela elle commençait à menacer ruine, mais depuis un an elle a été couverte aux frais de tous les villages des environs...". Ce furent sans doute les derniers travaux d'entretien car un siècle plus tard en Mgr Spinola indiquait qu'elle était à moitié détruite.
Toutes les églises romanes des pievi environnantes ont disparu (Sant'Alberto de la pieve du Liamone près d'Ambiegne, San Giovanni de la pieve du Cruzzini au-dessous de Salice) et San Giovanni Battista di Cinarca est donc le dernier vestige roman des vallées environnantes.
On peut constater sur le cadastre napoléonien relevé en 1844 que l'accès à l'église était déjà difficile obligeant à traverser des propriétés privées. Si vouz passez directemant vers l’eglise et rester les vache tranquille, pas entre les garage il y a pas de problem!
In medieval times , Corsica was divided into parishes , called " pievi " in Corsica. Battista di San Ghjuvan Cinarca dating from the eleventh century , was the main church of the " Pieve " Cinarca , built circa 1125-1140 on a small hill , " Poghju " already occupied in the Roman period , approximately equidistance of one thousand different villages and visible from each of them ( see the article on the history of Cinarca on the site of the city of Sari Orcino ) .
In 1587 , this church was visited by Bishop Mascardi who wrote: " ... it is situated in a rural location commonly called Cinarchese ... for many years it was discovered and because of this she began to fall into ruin , but since one year it was covered at the expense of all the surrounding villages ... " . It was probably the last maintenance because a century later Bishop Spinola stated that it was half destroyed .

It can be seen on the Napoleonic cadastre survey in 1844 that access to the church was difficult forcing through private property. If you go directly to the church and do not disturb the cattle or go into the famers storage there will be no problem.
