Unlock clues about Mounds State Park’s amusement park history during its annual geocaching event on Saturday, March 22. The event’s theme is “The Amusing Side of Mounds,” and participants will be led on a GPS scavenger hunt to sites where a carousel, rollercoaster, dance hall, skating rink, and more once stood. Geocachers will then solve puzzles to discover more about the former attractions. From 1897 to 1929, what is now Mounds State Park was an amusement park. The event will end with a CHILI DUMP and pitch-in lunch. Participants can bring pre-cooked or canned chili, beans or other appropriate ingredients to add to a kettle at the beginning of the day. The kettle will simmer over a fire during the event. Other suggested pitch-in items include crackers, cornbread, chili toppings and dessert. The event will end with lunch and prizes. A limited number of GPS units are available to borrow. Beginners are welcome. Participants should meet at the park’s pavilion by 10 a.m. for registration and to add their chili to the kettle. A $2 event fee, per person, applies. Mounds State Park (stateparks.IN.gov/2977.htm) is at 4306 Mounds Road, Anderson, 46017. Contact Information: Name: Jessica Rosier Phone: (765) 649-8128
